| The
Pale and Beyond (Diptych) 2007 Grass, handle, hymnal shoes and wings |
Left: A wall (the paling); a sky, full of words - the words are from Thomas Aquinas' Discourses - 'There is no deception in this sacrament…' The handle, which is like a wing, is connected to the wing which is by a rod of iron. The wing passes the hymnal and carries the Halleluiahs on the backs of locusts up to heaven. There it powers the light of the world. Right: The paling again, against the sky whose stuffing is falling out. Fragments of place - a photograph, maps, one of which contains the words …canane Sound - which is a dog barking The winged shoe ( the messenger) The ladder, in which are set two lenses. The ladder is a vision, like that of Jacob - without Vision there is no hope. |
